| Message from GAB
President
Leitha M.
Ortiz-Lesh
It's hard to imagine that summer is
in it's waning stage already. This year has
gone by quickly. As your president for this
last year and an officer for almost the last three
years I have focused, along with my fellow
officers, on reinforcing the existing foundation
of our association while creating an inviting,
informative and conscientious environment for
our members. We have accomplished so
much and yet there is
much more to be done. Unfortunately I will
not be able to continue on as GAB President
after my term has ended this October
2010. Likewise, Colleen Gillette, who has
dedicated herself to GAB as much as I have,
will also not be continuing on as Vice
President. GAB Officers, Tanya
Marquette and Lauren Rooney will continue on
as Secretaries. What is needed now
is for other members to step in and take the
reins. A sound structure
is in place and a great supporting cast
is at the ready. I have full confidence
that our next regime
will be able to pick up right
where Colleen and I have left
off. It has been a wonderful
experience, and one I may be convinced to try
again in the future, but for now I graciously hand
over my position and eagerly look forward to a new
era for myself and for GAB.
Sincerely,
Leitha |

GAB & NP Chamber
Sponsor The 3/50 Project Northeast Tour
Stop at SUNY New
Paltz
The 3/50 Project has been
sweeping across the country - a true
grassroots movement. As it makes its
way across the East Coast many people
are starting to ask "How did it begin and
what does it mean for me, for my business and
for my community?" Here is your
opportunity to find out. GAB
in a complete collaboration with
the New Paltz Chamber
have successfully negotiated SUNY New
Paltz as one of only four stops on The 3/50
Project's Northeast Tour. With help from
many local sponsors a Networking Event and
Seminar has been organized for this Friday
August 13th at SUNY Lecture Room 102 beginning
at 8:00 am. A continental breakfast
is included. Tickets are still
available, see the GAB or NP Chamber
websites for details and to purchase
on-line. There has been an
intense amount of coverage as local press has
taken an interest.
Articles about The 3/50 Project and
the northeast tour have been published in Crain's New
York, New Paltz Times and
Chronogram. This is such an important
event for small independent business owners
to attend, but it is equally important for
members of the community to learn how
supporting their local businesses helps
support their local economy. We hope to see you
all there!

Tanya
first came to Gardiner in 1977, renting in the
town houses on Albany Post Road. A few
years later, having moved a couple of times, she
looked for a house in the New Paltz School
district. "I wanted the diversity and more
progressive attitudes that seemed to be
flourishing here." A customer of hers was
building a house in Gardiner in 1981 and told
Tanya about a cottage on the neighboring
property. The location was ideal--a quiet,
dead end, rural road, close enough to action but
far enough for peace and quiet. Even after
losing her house to a fire in 1985, it seemed
right to remain here in town. For a
contractor like Tanya this was the perfect
opportunity to design and begin to build her new
house. Tanya has remained in Gardiner
with all its pastoral quiet and beauty has
been ever since. She is the
recording Secretary of GAB and is very active in
the
local community.
Marquette
Building & Consultation Services is truly a
full service company. Beginning with general
remodeling construction, the company has
expanded to include services of Home
Inspections, Mold and IAQ testing and
remediation, and Pesticide Inspections and
extermination. Needless to say they hold
appropriate Licensing and Certifications for all
inspection and testing work. Most recently they
are very proud to announce receipt of their
Certification as an Energy Auditor. Rounding out
their services is the consulting work they
provide. Any questions from choosing paint
colors to assessing how to modernize your 1920
kitchen while maintaining its historic patina is
right up their professional alley. In this
time of energy concerns it's great to know these
services are available right in our own
backyard. Tanya is ready and able to
assess your energy usage and suggest ways to
conserve energy and your budget. Ring her
up for an
appointment!
